#33 "We didn't realize that we were making memories, we just knew that we were having fun."
On Thursday we ended up going to the Nevada City Fire Safe Council board meeting to see all the different projects they do and where their money goes towards. The meeting lasted a few hours then we had to pull up scotch broom, and pick up trash behind the fire station. There was so much trash left behind from people that are homeless. By the end of the day we had about 4 bags full of trash and bottles that could be recycled. We got done and headed back to the fire safe council to have our weekly debrief meeting with Joanne. After the meeting we went back home which everyone was pretty happy about sense it had been spitting cold rain basically all day.
Friday we had an option whether to stay at the fire safe council shredding paper and putting together packets. Or we could go work at three different houses. The reason that we had an option on Friday was because it was supposed to rain all day. I chose to work out in the rain sense 1. The rain doesn't bother me, 2.we were just working in Washington and it rained every day there and 3. I would much rather be working outside than sitting in an office all day shredding paper. The first house that we went to really didn't need much work done other than a few low branches cut. The second house was out in the middle of no mans land it seemed but had some beautiful views. I had to cut off a few branches and then cut back a bunch of vines to clear a small oak tree so donna (our site supervisor) could cut it down. The reason I couldn't was because it was on a fairly large slope. When we started to pack up to go eat lunch the lady who's house we had been working on, came out and gave us chocolate cake! We headed over to donnas house to eat lunch inside which was really nice of her. After lunch our last house was one of the first lady's houses (the lady with skirts around her trees)
we had worked on sense being in Grass Valley. We went back to start 2 controlled burn piles. By the time we got there though, the rain began to come down hard so the fire wouldn't start. We ended the day a little early and went to pick up the group that stayed at the office. When we got home we changed and later on at night we all went out to a tea shop called Elixart herbal lounge. They had a musical group called River Tribe that played improvisational space and earth jams. The music was interesting but pretty good.
Saturday I slept in until 9ish and then ate breakfast while watching "A little Princess". After that I got dressed and the team went out to target. After target we went to Grass Valley and Emily and I went to "Pete's Pizza" sense were required to do at least two "dates" with each team member every round. After the pizza we walked around a bit then I went home while a few other team members stayed and went out on their team dates.
Today I got up at 8 then went to church at 8:30. Everyone who goes to church on my team have decided to go to each others churches ad see what it is like. While in Washington everyone went to a Catholic church with Maddie and I, so today we went to a Lutheran church with Molly. It was pretty fun and everyone was supper nice. I could see the similarities and differences between Catholic churches and Lutheran. Next weekend were planning on going to a Nondenominational church for Aisya. After church the girls who went to yoga picked us up and we went out to brunch at a local restaurant called humpty dumpty's. I got the Humpty's special oatmeal which was delicious because it had so much fresh fruit on top. After the restaurant we went home for a while then I came back to Grass Valley to walk around to some more shops. Everyday is a new adventure which I love and can't wait for the next adventures I have while my stay here!
