Saturday we (My room mates and I) woke up late and decided to spend most of the day together because we had missed each other so much. And partly because all the teams needed a little break from one another. I decided to make some pancakes while my room mates started to put away some things. When I came back up we decided to try to get into the holiday mood and watch Christmas movies, paint our nails and drink hot coco. We ended up watching The Grinch and the Polar Express; and painted our nails a deep red. At night we wanted to drive over to panda express for dinner but couldn't because there was no one to drive us. Instead I had Alyssa teach me to knit, which took a while but after about the 5th try I got the hang of it.
Sunday I had to help the team clean out the rest of the van around 11. When I went outside it felt like we were still in Washington with drizzly, cold and windy rain. In the afternoon we were able to go to Panda Express with one of my room mates and two of my team mates for lunch. While Chelsea and I went to Panda, the other two headed over to Starbucks to get some WiFi. After panda we walked over to Starbucks as well so I would be able to work on some documents. After a while we went back to campus and then at night, I was on duty in the main building with my team. I had to circle around the building with 2 other team mates to make sure there was no suspicious activity. My team mates were a little on ease because that day there was a report of a strange man trying to get into some of the buildings, that seemed to have bloody looking hands. But everything was okay because the police were around the campus almost 24 hours. After duty we all went back to our rooms and went to bed for the early morning.
Monday I woke up at 5:30 to get ready for PT. That morning it was windy, spitting rain and was 40 degrees out. All I could think of was my moms voice saying "Well goooood morning" having to wake up to that. For PT we had to do relay races on the field. After PT I went back to my room to see my one team mate (in the green unit) still in bed, and my other room mate who is also in the silver unit, laying on the floor. I asked her what she was doing and apparently she had fainted in the bathroom and all I could of think was the reasoning was that the temperature difference from outside to the dorm, possible sleep deprivation and not enough water. After making sure she was okay, I took a shower and got ready for our project debrief that we had that day. First though we had a community meeting with all of the units and staff. They congratulated us on our work and then we had a small activity. For this activity we had to go over to the state we lived in and talk about what we miss, what we don't miss, what our favorite activity was...etc. I was surprised by how many people came from Illinois, and it was nice being able to talk to all of them about home. Right after the meeting my team had our team debrief. This is when you have to talk about your project you just completed. We reflected on the type of work we did, what we learned, our individual and team struggles, our likes and dislikes and anything else about the project that we wanted to talk about, to our Unit Leader and staff. After the meeting I went back to my room and hung out with my room mates and knitted before I had to change and cook dinner. I ended up making burritos, with a few other team mates and we ate around 7pm. After dinner I cleaned, hung out with my roommates and then went to bed.
Tuesday I had to wake up at the same time for PT, and really I was convinced that we would do something fun for PT. I don't know why but I had a feeling we would. I was completely wrong because it was the same kind of weather as Monday, and we had to run around the field and do different exercises. After PT we had about 2 hours to get ready for our Unit celebrations. The Silver unit decided to do a potluck breakfast with the teams. The food you had to make had to represent your project in some way. My team made a squash/kale/feta cheese dish that we had at our "friendsgiving". I thought the other teams meals were also pretty creative. Silver 1 had pop-tarts because they said their team basically lived off them, turkey slices to represent all the turkey they distributed over the thanksgiving weekend and Hawaiian rolls to represent them being a little bitter about not being chosen to go to Hawaii for the next round. Silver 4 (I believe) had made dirt cups with starburst on tooth picks sticking out to represent them getting very muddy during their projects and them having to flag different trees with ribbon. All in all the celebration was a hit being able to eat and talk to different teams about their projects. After the celebration I had nothing else planned for the day so just hung out around campus with different team mates and my room mates.
Today I woke up around 8, went on a walk with one of my team mates and then got coffee. Today is more directed to the TLs and ATL (Assistant team leader) meetings. I did apply to be the ATL for the next round but lost to molly, who I believe is perfect for that position. The ATL is basically there for the TL for what ever they may need assistance on. Molly will now have to help run meetings, finance and step up as the TL when Amanda is not there. So in a way today is sort of my day off from normal work.
I've been pretty sad not being able to be home over the holiday season but it'll be okay, I've had my team mates to celebrate with!

I found it humorous that they had a cubs ornament in an Oregon hotel
This was the sunset last night (Tuesday). Seeing the sunset made me think of what my grandpa used to tell me. "Sunset at night, sailors delight. Sunset in the Morning, sailors warning." It has always been true in my eyes. Especially because of how amazing today's weather has been! Warm and sunny!
